Area Agencies on Aging (AAA)
Area Agencies on Aging were established nationally under the
federal Older Americans Act to respond to the needs of older individuals
aged 60 years and older within every local community in the nation.
In Florida, AAAs coordinate tens of millions of dollars annually
which finance a wide array of home and community-based services
such as: congregate and home delivered meals; senior centers;
transportation; case management; home care; respite care; adult
day care; and, legal assistance. AAAs provide information to older
individuals and their families as well as other interested individuals
about the availability of local aging services.
Florida's AAAs have over 25 years of experience administering
and coordinating services for frail, chronically ill persons.
AAAs coordinate low-cost, comprehensive, quality care to thousands
of older persons across Florida by helping them and their families
navigate the complex system of community services.
For years, AAAs have been skillfully managing care for vulnerable
populations by maximizing private and public resources to ensure
essential resources are available to minority, frail and low income
older persons in need of comprehensive long-term care. Such skilled
management has kept government costs down and minimized costs
for those needing services.
AAAs provide security to family members of all ages who know
their loved one's choices and preferences will be given our highest
priority. Such individual attention makes AAAs the first, most
trusted source of information and assistance for Florida's older
residents and their families.
The tradition of AAAs — making it easier for older persons to
live independently in the comfort of their own surroundings —
is not only cost-effective, it is the preferred choice of older
Floridians.
